History of the Hot Springs
Murrieta was discovered by Native American Indians more than a thousand years ago who used the spring for bathing and spiritual rituals and believed that the hot springs had healing powers. Murrietta Hot Springs was purchased by German immigrant Fritz Guenther in 1902 and was developed into a top-notch spa-resort that was visited by people from all over the country.
The property was sold by the Guenther family in 1970 to developer Irvin Kahn. Kahn then sold to the Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa in 1995. The property was then transformed into a Christian Retreat by Calvary Chapel and remains so today.
