Azure Palm Hot Springs is a commercial resort in Southern California, two hours east of Los Angeles in the quiet city of Desert Hot Springs. The resort has four hot tubs and one swimming pool filled with natural mineral water. For visitors who wish to explore Joshua Tree National Park, this resort is a 50-minute drive from the park’s northern entrance. Solo visitors and couples will enjoy this relaxed, elegant resort.
Desert Hot Springs is less-visited than next-door Palm Springs. The town sits atop a thin crust of the earth, which bubbles up geothermal waters. Resorts like Azure Palm have piped this water into their pools, making the city famous for its hot springs resorts and spas.
The resort is located on “Miracle Hill,” a hillside neighborhood known for its mineral water. There is also a cold-water aquifer that produces the world’s best-tasting drinking water. Many resorts have been built on this land of natural hot and cold water, including Azure Palm.
Azure Palm Hot Springs Hot Pools Information
There are five mineral water pools at Azure Palm Hot Springs: one large swimming pool, two covered outdoor hot tubs, and two indoor hot tubs. There is also an indoor dry sauna. Guests can lounge around the pool or hot tubs in both shaded and open seating. There are fire pits and a cafe. Day visitors can enjoy the resort between 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Overnight guests will have 24-hour access to the pools and private mineral water bathtubs.
The water at Azure Palm is naturally heated, between 85°F (29°C) to 104°F (40°C). Minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, and lithium.
Unlike other hot springs, you will not see nudity here. So, pack a swimsuit. If you are looking for a clothing-optional experience, you can find other spas and resorts in Desert Hot Springs.
This resort is ideal for solo travelers and couples looking for a one- or two-night desert vacation. Overnight visitors can choose from forty hotel rooms with double beds or king beds, air conditioning, and clear mountain views. All overnight guests have 24-hour access to the five mineral water pools.
Access and Usage Fees
There are multiple services at Azure Palm. Day passes cost $50 per person, while spa services cost $125 to $445, depending on the treatment or package. As of March 2022, customers who select a spa service are free to relax in the sauna, lounge, or mineral water pools (otherwise, there is an additional admission fee). All overnight guests have complimentary 24-hour access to the pools.
In addition, rooms cost between $189 to $519 per night, depending on the season. Summer rates are typically lower than peak season (winter).
Azure Palm Hot Springs is one mile east of Palm Drive, the main strip of Desert Hot Springs. Guests are one block’s walk from Cabot’s Pueblo Museum, a Native American museum inspired by the Hopi people ($13 admission).
If you’re active, visit one of the many hiking trails in the area, such as Windy Ridge (3.6 miles), Blind Canyon (3.9 miles), or Tim’s Ladder Trail (4.7 miles). A brand-new trail Long Canyon Trail is 12 miles one way and connects to Joshua Tree National Park; it would be an excellent day-long winter trek. If you’re exploring in the summer, bring more water than you expect, wear a hat and sunscreen, and start your walk as early as possible in the morning. However, if you’ve got a car, this resort is only a 50-minute drive from Joshua Tree National Park, where you can spend hours exploring.
For those who wish to explore the city, it is a 3-minute drive, 8-minute bus ride, or 25-minute walk to Hacienda Palms Shopping Center on Palm Drive. The shopping center has an Indian restaurant, Mexican restaurant, donut shop, and grocery store. There are more restaurants and shops further up and down Palm Drive. Mexican restaurants are the most popular, with local favorites like Casa Blanca, Las Palmas, and Zapopan. However, most visitors will want to stay at the resort, which offers food on site.
