Indian Springs Calistoga
Indian Springs has been soaking travelers since the 19th century — it’s one of California’s original spa resorts, spread across 17 palm- and olive-dotted acres at the north end of Napa Valley. The centerpiece is the Olympic-sized mineral pool built in 1910, fed by four thermal geysers on the property, and the spa is famous across wine country for its volcanic ash mud baths.

The Soak
The mineral pool is the real deal: an Olympic-sized basin from 1910, kept filled with warm geyser water, ringed by palms and lounge chairs in the classic Calistoga style. A second, adults-only pool offers a quieter soak. The water comes from four thermal geysers on the grounds — the same geothermal source that made Calistoga famous and powers the spa’s signature mud baths, where volcanic ash is mixed with mineral water the way it has been for generations here.
The Spa and Staying Over
The spa menu centers on the mud bath experience, plus massages, facials and body treatments; spa guests get pool access, which makes a treatment day the classic way in without booking a room. Lodging is an eclectic mix — historic cottages, bungalows and Mission Revival-style lodge buildings, each a little different, with gardens and walking paths throughout the grounds. Sam’s Social Club handles meals in a rustic American style, so a full soak-dine-sleep day never has to leave the property.
